Corporate giants Apple and Facebook are giving their female employees the choice of having their eggs frozen.

Talk about company perks; the top names in the tech world are “expanding their benefits for women” with the intrusive procedure for all their female employees.

There have been negative acclaims made towards the top dogs, claiming the valuable brands are only concerned with the welfare of their business and less so with the health and wellbeing of their employees. Offering such a corporate perk can be highly beneficial for some women who are more career focused, and wish to delay having a family at a later age.

Apple is offering up to £13,000 ($20,000) for the extensive procedure, which they hope to attract top female talents into the male dominated industry. The plan is covered as part of Apple’s fertility benefits, and for Facebook, under their surrogacy benefit.

For career-focused women, this new perk will prove highly beneficial, however despite its veneer of empowerment, there are no guaranteed results that comes from egg freezing, when a woman’s natural fertility depletes in her late-thirties to mid-forties.

This egg-freezing benefit is separating work and family life. Young women feel they are being given a choice of having a family or pursuing a successful career, but not both.
